Are you an Imposter?

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome Is Real.

In fact, everyone who is up to something deals with it. If you have it, consider it a badge of honor. You are on the right path.

Is this you?

  • You're not waiting for someone else's approval.

  • You're stepping out of your comfort zone.

  • You're tackling significant challenges.

Excellent book on this topic:

The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery by Brianna Wiest

You'll typically face two types of resistance;

internal and external.

1. Internal Resistance (Imposter Syndrome)

Our brains are hardwired for safety, often resisting change and growth.

It sounds like:

"You just got lucky."

"Who do you think you are?"

"You'll be exposed as a fraud."

"Others are more qualified than you."

The best way to deal with thought like this is to examine them.

Bring them out to light. Write them down. Question them. They will not survive a logical examination of the rational mind.

Be vigilant in the beginning of new challenges. During the learning phase, self doubt can intensify. Do not let it hinder your progress through the learning curve.

Next there is External Resistance (your peer group)

Society, much like in our ancestral days, values conformity for the sake of group survival. Our social circles can dictate our growth potential.

First, you identified and defeated self-doubt. As a result, you have grown.

Next, ask “Does my environment support the new me?”

It’s possible to outgrow peer group circles, leading to two choices:

a.) Stay within the familiar and conform.

b.) Venture out and find like-minded peers.

“It is very hard to show up as the person you want to be when you are surrounded by an environment that makes you feel like a person you aren’t.”
Brianna Wiest, The Mountain Is You.

The key is to keep being vigilant about your thoughts and continue taking action.

Recognize self double for what they are – not walls, but hurdles to overcome on your path to growth.

Till next week,

P.S. I’ll leave you with this quote. ❤️

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one. It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction.

It’s going to cost you relationships and friends. It’s going to cost you being liked and understood.

It doesn’t matter.

The people who are meant for you are going to meet you on the other side.

You’re going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward.

Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved.

Instead of being understood, you’re going to be seen.

All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are.”
